Inspection of empty facilities in Malmö and Lund

Empty room, only a chair in the middle can be seen.

The Faculty has carried out a review of empty facilities within the Faculty, which are currently burdening the Faculty's budget. This review means that 1) rent will be charged retroactively for facilities that have been terminated but not yet emptied 2) empty facilities that the faculty pays for will be locked from May 1.

Background

Currently, the Faculty of Medicine lacks routines to limit authorization to terminated facilities and/or common storage areas. In principle, this means that groups that previously had authorization for a facility have the same authorization even after they have formally left these rooms.

A cost and safety issue

The purpose of the review is to reduce the costs of empty facilities that today burden the faculty and ultimately all operations. To prevent problems in situations where access to a facility for permit reasons must be limited, or in the event of theft from a room. Rent will be charged retroactively for the facilities that should have been vacated but are still in use.

Decision

In order to deal with the problem surrounding unleased premises, the Med-service unit manager has decided the following:

  • that the groups with authorization for a room or part of a room will lose the access once they terminate their contract
  • that individual will be locked in connection with the groups moving out
  • only Med-service, the building’s owners and security personnel will have access to these rooms.
  • those areas within active workplaces with associated desks, cabinets and cupboards will be blocked or locked when the group moves out.

The decision applies from 1 May 2024.
