Find teaching opportunities
Are you interested in teaching in English at basic or advanced level at the Faculty of Medicine?
Faculty of Medicine has the following international programmes that have English as language of instruction:
- Biomedicine - Bachelor’s and Master's Programme
- Public Health - Master’s Programme
- Medical Science - Master’s Programme
- The Medical Programme (contains a few activities where English is sufficient, please see below on this webpage).
If you have a teacher employment you will be prioritised when appointing teaching assignments.
Current recruitments
The Bachelor’s programme in Biomedicine is recruiting course managers for the following courses:
- The Cell and its Environment, BIMB23, 15 credits, from spring 2025.
- Frontiers in Translational and Molecular Medicine, BIMB50, 22,5 credits, from fall 2025.
BIMB23 is a second semester course in biochemistry and cell biology, focusing on the molecular and cellular mechanisms that control cells and the basic functions of their surroundings.
Themes that are covered include intracellular signal transduction, gene regulation, specialised cells and basic tissue types and cell cycle and cancer. In addition, the course provides proficiencies in extracting, interpreting and presenting information from research articles, and training in solving cell biology problems experimentally through the application of cellular and molecular biology methods.
The course employs active learning strategies with much interaction between teachers and students. We are looking for a course manager from spring semester 2025. As course manager you will have administrative responsibility for the course with opportunities for teaching. The position is suitable for an individual with a broad understanding of cell biology and biochemistry, and a keen interest in active learning.
BIMB50 is a fifth semester course composed of specific week topics and a portfolio. The first five weeks of the course focus on acquiring topic knowledge within the areas of cardiopulmonary medicine, neurology, infection/immunology, endocrinology and oncology.
The following eight weeks focus on the integration of the topic areas in applications including authoring a review article and a research program. In addition, the students work on applying various strategies to inform the public about the current state of knowledge in translational and molecular medicine and to apply feedback according to a scientific review procedure.
The course employs active learning strategies with much interaction between teachers and students. We are looking for a course manager to mainly be responsible for the portfolio work from autumn semester 2025. As course manager you will have administrative responsibility for the course with opportunities for teaching. The position is suitable for an individual with a broad understanding and interest in translational and molecular medicine, and an interest in active learning, course development and QPS (Ortrac).
All courses at the Biomedicine programmes are held in English and designed for the use of active learning and teaching strategies, mainly in the form of TBL, Team Based Learning. Therefore, it is important that teachers involved in course management are familiar with active learning and continue to apply this throughout the course.
Also, we encourage connecting courses within the respective programme to assure alignment and progress in learning. Most courses have two course managers and one examiner that work in close collaboration. For more information, please see the programme overview, course syllabi as well as a role description of the course manager.
Application of interest
If this sounds like a stimulating opportunity, send a short letter of interest and pedagogic CV (including your pedagogical training, experience and vision) as well as which course you are interested in, to biomed [at] med [dot] lu [dot] se, no later than December 19, 2024.
The applications will be evaluated on 5 criteria. Please clearly address these aspects in your application.
- Pedagogic education
- Teaching experience
- Prior experience of course management
- Subject expertise
- International experience
Please also specify what type of position you hold at LU (e.g. Researcher, Associate senior lecturer (BUL), Senior Lecturer, Professor).

How to apply
The appointment process varies between the programmes. All programmes give priority to you who have a teaching position when recruiting.
In the first instance, you should contact your assistant head of department with responsibility for education at the undergraduate and graduate level.
Below you find specific information from some of our programs. It describes how teaching assignments are appointed to these.
Both the Bachelor and Master programmes in biomedicine have English as language of instruction and admit students from all over the world.
All major teaching assignments (course leader and examiner) are appointed in competition by the programme director after counselling with the chair of the programme board.
If you are interested in becoming a course leader or examiner, you need to keep an eye out for advertisements on the faculty's website as well as information about expression of interest via official emails from the faculty.
All other teaching assignments are appointed by the course leader for the respective course based on competence and experience. If you are interested in teaching in a specific course you should contact the course leader. You find a list of the courses and contact information to the course leader here:

The teaching in the Medical programme is generally in Swedish. However, there are a few instances where English is sufficient:
Semester 1
Project lab – 2-3 students spend 1-2 days at a research lab, and get a general introduction and perform an experiment. They shall also put together a lab report. If you are interested in supervising, please send an email to: T1 [at] med [dot] lu [dot] se (T1[at]med[dot]lu[dot]se)
Semester 3
Analysis of a controversial scientific issue – The students shall put together an analysis in English. If you are interested in assessing such analyses, please send an email to: T3 [at] med [dot] lu [dot] se (T3[at]med[dot]lu[dot]se)
Semester 5 and 10
Scientific project – The students carry out scientific projects of ~7 weeks (semester 5) or one semester (semester 10). You can register a project in our database for scientific projects. Thereby the students can find it when they search for projects.
Most programmes have Swedish as language of instruction.
