Work efficiently using an electronic lab notebook (ELN)

An electronic laboratory notebook (ELN) can help you work more efficiently and in a more structured way during and after your research project. ELNs support scientific workflows by facilitating collaboration, data collection from lab equipment, organisation and analysis, inventory management and research activity logging.

The benefits of using an electronic lab notebook (ELN)

  • Facilitates collaboration within and outside your research group.
  • Provides easy, one-stop access to all records, materials and results.
  • Improves your laboratory workflow.
  • Gives you an overview of all project data.
  • Provides a secure environment and protection for your data.
  • Helps you to comply with existing data management regulations.

Labguru – your electronic lab notebook

Labguru is designed for researchers and laboratory staff. It allows you and your team to plan experiments effectively and securely, monitor progress, share results and comments, and store research results and manage inventory. It is easy to upload lab notes, images, structures and documents from different devices.

How to get a Labguru licence

To activate a Labguru licence and create a Labguru account, contact the system administrator by emailing servicedesk [at] lu [dot] se. Add 'Labguru' to the subject field for a quicker response. Licences are not personal and can be used freely by group members.

A Labguru licence costs SEK 1,300 per year for research groups affiliated with the Faculty of Medicine and SEK 1,500 per year for research groups at other Lund University faculties.

The research group leader (PI) owns the group's Labguru account and is responsible for financing.

Contact the system administrator if you need to add a new user to your Labguru account. Send your request to servicedesk [at] lu [dot] se. Include 'Labguru' in the subject line.

For all types of support regarding Labguru, please contact us at the Library by emailing servicedesk [at] lu [dot] se and writing Labguru somewhere in the subject line.

You find a general module for user training in Labguru, “Labguru Academy”. Free webinars can be offered by Cenevo at regular intervals.  Labguru Tutorial videos at labguru.com

At the moment, the Faculty of Medicine does not offer any of its own courses. Instead, we refer you to the resources that are available at Labguru.

  • The Faculty of Medicine provides Labguru to all researchers at Lund University. The Faculty of Medicine acts as the system administrator and owner.
  • The Library Research Support Team manages licence administration, user accounts and accessibility.
  • Labguru is provided and developed by Cenevo.

Labguru is hosted on servers owned and operated by Lund University. All data is stored securely at Lund University.

To comply with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), the library manually manages all Labguru accounts rather than using Cenevo, the developer of Labguru.
