Systematic preventive work against discrimination (SFAD)

Lund University and the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences have zero tolerance for discrimination.

According to the Discrimination Act, the Faculty of Medicine, as an employer and education provider, is obliged to continuously work to prevent discrimination. It is the employer's responsibility to:

  1. Examine whether there are risks of discrimination or obstacles to equal rights and opportunities.
  2. Analyse causes of detected risks and obstacles.
  3. Take preventive and promotional measures.
  4. Follow up and evaluate the work referred to in paragraphs 1 to 3.

As an employee, you can turn to your immediate manager with thoughts and ideas that can be part of the preventive work at your unit. During your staff appraisal, you can also express thoughts and ideas about improvements in your business.

As a manager you must, in collaboration with employees, continuously carry out the preventive work against discrimination in four steps within the following five areas:

  • Working conditions
  • Rules and practices on salaries and other conditions of employment
  • Recruitment and promotion
  • Education and training
  • Reconciling work and parenthood

Work preventively by starting from the Faculty of Medicine's template for investigating the work environment during staff appraisals with your employees. For more information, contact your HR function or work environment coordinator.

You are encouraged to attend management training and for employed teaching staff with management responsibility, it is also a requirement for eligibility and promotion to senior lecturer.
