Application for credit transfer of courses

Students who have studied, or plan to study, courses at another higher education institution and who would like these credited in stead of a compulsory courses, can apply for credit transfer. Granted credit transfer shortens the duration of their doctoral programme correspondingly. Please note that this does not happen automatically, but only after submitting a request/application to the PhD Studies Office.

The application form is available in the column to the right. PLEASE NOTE: In order for the expert to be able to make a decision on credit transfer, you need to attach the course certificate, syllabus and course schedule for the course(s) you would like to base the credit transfer on.   • The course content is relevant to the PhD student's doctoral education.
  • The course advances the conditions for the thesis work, by providing increased knowledge in the subject or methods relevant to the thesis.
  • The credited course is not have been part of the prerequisite education to the doctoral programme.
  • The course must be at doctoral level or at a level higher than the doctoral student's prerequisite education in the subject area. For example, year two of a master's degree can be credited to the doctoral level.
  • The course may have been completed at another higher education institution.
  • If the course content is outside the subject area of the doctoral student's previous higher education, the course must be at the level of higher education (university/högskola).
  • The course must be included in the latest revision of the PhD student’s individual study plan.
  • Courses completed before admission to the doctoral programme must be registered in connection with admission and entered in the individual study plan.
  • Other credit-bearing educational experiences may be credited, in accordance with the above.

  • Basic course in research methodology (VMFU19) 30hp 
    The course provides exemption for the courses in Oral communication, Scientific communication, Elective course 1.5 credits, Statistical methods in medical research, (applies to doctoral students admitted to the doctoral programme until 2015-12-31), and Applied statistics I, (applies to doctoral students admitted to the doctoral programme 2015-01-01 or later). Doctoral students admitted between 2017-07-01 and 2021-06-30 may also receive credits for Applied Qualitative Methods I. For doctoral students admitted as of 2021-07-01, the course provides exemption for the course modules Oral Communication, Scientific Communication, Applied Statistics I, and Introduction to Research Methods within the Research School in Medical Science. In addition, the doctoral student may credit elective course 1.5 credits.
     
  • Basic research methodology for general medicine (VMFN28) 
    The course provides exemption for the courses Oral Communication, Scientific Communication, Applied Statistics I. Doctoral students admitted between 2017-07-01 and 2021-06-30 may also take Applied Qualitative Methods I. For doctoral students admitted as of 2021-07-01, the course provides exemption for the course modules Oral Communication, Scientific Communication, Applied Statistics I, and Introduction to Research Methodology within the Research School in Medical Science. 
     
  • Basic course in research methodology (VMFU50) 30hp 
    The course exempts the courses in Oral Communication, Scientific Communication, Applied Statistics I and Elective Course 1.5 credits.  Doctoral students admitted between 2017-07-01 and 2021-06-30 may also receive credit for Applied Qualitative Methods I. For doctoral students admitted from 2021-07-01, the course provides exemption for the course modules Oral Communication, Scientific Communication, Applied Statistics I, and Introduction to Research Methodology within the Research School in Medical Science. In addition, the doctoral student may credit elective course 1.5 credits.
     
  • Animal experimental courses (BIMM12, BIMM17, BIMM18) 
    The course provides exemption for the course in Laboratory Animal Science MEFD001. BIMM18 also provides exemption for Applied Statistics I for doctoral students admitted between 2015-01-01 and 2021-06-30 and for doctoral students admitted from 2021-07-01, BIMM18 instead provides exemption for the course in Laboratory Animal Science MEFD001 and the course module Applied Statistics I within the Research School in Medical Science.
     
  • Biomedicine: Biomedical profession (BIMM32) if admitted before 2015-01-01 to the doctoral program.
    The course gives exemption for Research ethics 1.5hp, Oral communication, Scientific communication, Statistical methods in medical science and an elective course of 1.5hp. 
     
  • Biomedicine: Biomedical profession (BIMM32) if admitted between 2015-01-01 and 2020-12-31 to the doctoral program.
    The course provides exemption for Research Ethics 1.5hp, Oral Communication, Scientific Communication, Applied Statistics I, the Introductory Course and an elective course of 1.5hp.
     
  • Biomedicine: Biomedical profession (BIMM32) if admitted between 2015-01-01 and 2020-12-31 to the doctoral program.
    The course provides exemption for Research Ethics 1.5hp, Oral Communication, Scientific Communication, Applied Statistics I, the Introductory Course and an elective course of 1.5hp.
     
  • Biomedicine: Biomedical profession (BIMM32) if admitted from 2021-07-01 to the doctoral program.
    The course provides exemption for Oral Communication, Scientific Communication, Applied Statistics I, the Introductory Course and an elective course of 1.5 credits.
     
  • Biomedicine: Biomedical Profession (BIMM34) if admitted between 2015-01-01 and 2021-06-30 to the doctoral program.
    The course provides exemption for Research Ethics 1.5hp, Oral Communication, Scientific Communication, Applied Statistics I and II and an elective course of 1.5hp. 
     
  • Biomedicine: Biomedical profession (BIMM34) if admitted from 2021-07-01 to the doctoral program:
    The course provides exemption for the course modules Oral Communication, Scientific Communication, Applied Statistics I, and II and elective course 1.5 credits.
     
  • MPHN23 Public Health Sciences: Epidemiology and Biostatistics
    The course provides exemption for Applied Statistics I for doctoral students admitted up to and including 2021-06-30. For doctoral students admitted from 2021-07-01, the course provides exemption for the course module Applied Statistics I within the Graduate School of Medical Science.
     
  • MEFD001, Laboratory Animal Science
    If admitted between 2017-07-01 and 2021-06-30, the theoretical part of the course gives exemption for Applied Qualitative Methods 1.5hp.
     
  • MESLEF1, Swedish legislation and ethics in laboratory animal science
    If admitted between 2017-07-01 and 2021-06-30, the course provides exemption for Applied Qualitative Methods 1.5hp.
