What does a course manager do?
– A course manager has the overall responsibility for planning, implementing, and following up on a course. The role includes pedagogical, administrative, and quality-related aspects. The goal is to provide students with the best and fairest conditions possible to achieve the course objectives. The work is carried out in close collaboration with the examiner, course administrator, study counselor, and other key individuals in the education, which is crucial for the course to function well both organizationally and pedagogically.
I see it as a privilege to contribute to the future of specialist nurses and to be part of their journey toward professional life. It’s a role that is constantly evolving and that helps me grow as both an educator and a person.
– Being a course manager is a role that is both challenging and highly rewarding. It requires structure, collaboration, and flexibility, but above all, a genuine commitment to the students’ learning and development.
What’s the most enjoyable part of the role?
– It’s having the opportunity to shape and plan the course content. I’m fortunate to be the manager for five out of six courses, and since I also teach, I get to follow the students throughout their entire journey. It’s very rewarding to see how they grow and develop.
What challenges are there?
– There are various challenges, such as the practical task of fairly allocating clinical placement spots to students and ensuring that the schedule and room bookings fall into place. But there are also other challenges, like supporting students who are experiencing stress or disappointment, after failing an exam for example and helping them find strategies to move forward.
