KAW Research projects with high scientific potential 2026 – LU management rules

Project applications to the Knut and Alice Wallenberg Foundation (KAW) are to be prioritised and approved by the Vice-chancellor of Lund University. First deadline: 12.00 noon on September 19th 2025.

The Foundation supports projects with high scientific potential. Projects should be focused on a coherent research  question where the complementary competencies of the participating scientists  gives new possibilities  to attack the chosen research question. Projects normally have a budget of between SEK 15 million and SEK 40 million. Projects can have a duration of three to five years. 

The LU internal management rules

Below you can find a link to more information about the LU internal management rules, contact persons and timetable for applications for the 2026 project grant to the Knut & Alice Wallenberg Foundation. 

Applicants must write a maximum of one-third of a page (in a Word document without a template or signatures) describing why the project and the composition of the project group are important. This text will be included in the faculty’s justification submitted to the Research Board, and if the application is selected by Lund University for submission to KAW, the text will form part of the Vice-Chancellor’s letter. The text should be written as if authored by the Dean.

This text must be submitted together with the LoI (Letter of Intent, see attachment 2 in the Management rules) no later than at 12.00 noon on September 19th 2025. Send the LoI to birgitta [dot] larsson [at] med [dot] lu [dot] se (birgitta[dot]larsson[at]med[dot]lu[dot]se) .
