Liaison librarians – support for information literacy

The Faculty's liaison librarians support student information literacy at the Faculty of Medicine. We are happy to work with you to help your students develop skills in searching, evaluating, and managing information.

Progression of skills and competences

Our work is based on a clear progression of information literacy skills, where the students gradually and step-by-step learn information literacy skills, from basic skills to more advanced proficiency. The teaching content is aligned with the learning outcomes set out in the course syllabus and well integrated into the programme wherever possible.

Five levels of information literacy

Each level includes information literacy skills that help students to:

  • Search for and select scientific information
  • Critically evaluate sources
  • Reference correctly in their work

The aim is to improve students' academic performance and prepare them for professional life or further research.

We welcome collaboration

Your feedback, as well as that of your students, helps us to improve our teaching. Please get in touch to

What we do for the faculty programmes

  • Teaching information literacy
We teach students how to search for, evaluate, and reference scientific information. In our teaching and guidance, we use internationally and nationally recognised standards and methods, for example from Cochrane and SBU, when working with evidence-based practice.
  • Guidance in search methods, literature searching, and EndNote
Our guidance sessions complement scheduled teaching. Students can book one-hour sessions, which are especially popular among those writing theses.
  • Production of manuals and videos
The online guide on Canvas –  “Search, Evaluate, Reference”  – collects various learning materials.
  • Course Literature
We purchase course literature for loan, ensuring students have access to relevant materials. The deadline for submitting literature lists to the librarians is 1 June for the autumn semester and 1 December for the spring semester.
