New framework and procedures for renting premises

From 1 December, a new framework and procedures apply for renting premises at the Faculty of Medicine.

In connection with the review and the work on the faculty's empty premises, it has become clear that there is a need for clearer frameworks and procedures for renting premises. Vice Dean Karin Jirström explains:

“In order to protect the work environment for our employees and at the same time better comply with the guidelines that have been developed for Lund University as a whole, we have now established the minimum number of square meters that we can have per desk and person.”

The new minimum levels are 3 sqm per desk/person in rooms adjacent to laboratory rooms where there are a maximum of 2 people, and 4.5 sqm per desk/person in rooms where there are more than 2 people. It is not allowed to have less space than these minimum levels per desk.

New rules for terminations and changes

“In addition, we are making a change so that changes to the premises area, i.e. terminations, additions to the existing rented space and changes to the financing or cost centre of the premises, can only be made at three times per year, at the change of the tertiary,” says Karin.

This means that the application for a change of allocated areas that will apply from Tertiary 1 must be received no later than 1 November the previous year, from Tertiary 2 must be received no later than 1 March the same year, and from Tertiary 3 must be received no later than 1 July the same year. The decision also stipulates that areas that can be terminated are either the entire allocated premises or premises that are located next to one another in such a way that someone else can make use of the collective premises.

“In order to lessen the workload of the heads of department, it will be the administrative managers who will be responsible for filling in and signing applications for changes to premises at the departments. For other units, we will keep the current workflow.”
