BioRender is a tool for creating clear and visually appealing scientific content, even for less tech-savvy people.
"This is a fantastic graphic tool for our employees at the Faculty, which makes it easy for everyone to make nice images and illustrations for grant applications, presentations and teaching," says a happy Research group leader, Professor Deierborg.
Facilitates understanding
The tool has a large library of more than 30,000 life sciences figures; cells, proteins, genes, and complex biological structures that facilitate the understanding of complex aspects of life sciences. The icons in the library can be adapted to the specific needs of the researcher. In addition, users can choose from a ready-made template for common biology diagrams, such as signaling pathways or cell cycles.
“BioRender is very simple and popular among employees, and many are already using it. It will be cheaper for everyone if we have a common license, and that will certainly lead to more people using it.”
“Nicer illustrations that make it easier to market research projects and make graphical abstracts for scientific publications. I believe that we as a Faculty will benefit from this by improving the quality of the applications. Of course, it will also provide an opportunity for teachers to build up more attractive and pedagogical teaching material.
Explains research
Tomas Deierborg and his lab have already started using the tool.
"In my lab, however, it is mostly my younger, talented colleagues who use it to make illustrative and explanatory images linked to our research. They also help me make nice illustrations for our joint applications.”
And best of all:
"The idea is that now no one will have to pay for it themselves and thus hesitate to use Biorender. The cost will initially be paid by the departments. Then we will have to evaluate the interest among users and see how the cost can be covered. One idea is that this should be part of the programs offered through BIKT."
