Join us for this interesting webinar, which will explore the role of preprints in medical research. Preprints are early versions of research papers shared publicly before undergoing journal-organised peer review.

Aimed at researchers and doctoral students, this webinar will focus on perspectives on preprints in medicine within the context of scientific publishing. Specifically, it will highlight their potential to accelerate the dissemination of knowledge, boost collaboration and increase researchers' visibility.

We are pleased to present two speakers who will share their insights on preprints in medicine.

Jonny Coates will provide an overview of preprints, including their history and current landscape, while dispelling common myths.
Nick Leigh will share his own experiences with publishing preprints.

About the speakers

Jonny Coates Executive Director and Founder of Rippling Ideas
Jonny Coates is a world-leading expert on preprints in the life sciences. He began his journey into the world of science communication around 2018, when he started advocating for the adoption of preprints. During the COVID-19 pandemic, he led research into the essential role of preprints in responding rapidly to the emerging global health crisis, and also investigated the quality of pandemic preprints. He hosts the Preprints in Motion podcast, and his work has been featured in Nature, The Economist, the BBC and The Scientist, among others. He regularly writes opinion pieces and speaks in support of preprints and improvements to scholarly communication.

Nicholas Leigh, Senior Lecturer, PI, and research team manager of the Regenerative Immunology lab at the Faculty of Medicine, as part of the Wallenberg Centre for Molecular Medicine and Lund Stem Cell Center.
The Regenerative Immunology lab investigates how the immune system interacts with both regenerative and malignant tissues. In addition to the lab’s focus, Nick is a supporter of reforming scientific publishing, the use of preprints, and eliminating barriers to open and equitable access to science.
