Team-based learning
The course provides an introduction to team-based learning (TBL).
Who is the course intended for?
The course is aimed at those who already work with team-based learning (TBL) and those who will be working in a TBL environment.
The course is applied for by a teacher team that jointly develops a shared TBL module. To ensure that the learning activities can be carried out in a constructive and meaningful way, each team must consist of at least three participants.
Course structure
The course format follows the TBL model, with individual preparation forming the basis for activities, Readiness Assurance Tests, and application exercises. During the three course meetings, we explore the different components of the TBL process in depth.
Scope and requirements
Attendance during the course days is mandatory, as the teacher teams collaboratively create usable TBL components. The course comprises 40 hours of work, of which 9 hours are scheduled course meetings.
After completing the course, participants will be able to:
Knowledge and understanding
- Explain key concepts in TBL
Skills and abilities
- Argue, based on evidence, when TBL is an appropriate method to use
- Create relevant material for all phases of TBL
- Plan and design a complete TBL module that ensures cognitive progression between phases
Judgement and approach
- Process feedback from their team and reflect on how it can contribute to learning
TBL Day 1: A day on Team Application
TBL Day 2: A day on Readiness Assurance
TBL Day 3: A day on Advance Assignment
Course dates Autumn 2026
The course will be given in Swedish during Autumn of 2026. For more information and application, see Teambaserat lärande.

To carry out the learning activities constructively, each team must consist of at least three participants. When registering, you must also provide the names and email addresses of the other members of your team. Note: One registration per person.
Prioritisation of applicants is based on their motivation statements and, when needed, in consultation with programme directors, the teaching appointment committee, and the docent committee. Among those applying for courses required for docent qualification, prioritisation is mainly based on the date of PhD defence.
Course occasions that do not gather a sufficient number of participants may be cancelled.
Formally, the course is considered staff training and therefore does not award academic credits. A completed course may be cited when assessing teaching competence at Lund University. If you wish to have the course accredited elsewhere (e.g., another university), that institution must determine whether the course corresponds to a certain number of credits.
