”We have invited established researchers who actively engage in collaboration to share their cases, showcasing examples from various fields such as preclinical, clinical, and epidemiological research. I am delighted that we can offer this wonderful opportunity at the faculty,” says professor Eva Ageberg, vice dean and responsible for research, career development and external engagement at the Faculty of Medicine.
This hands-on workshop explores the what, why, and how of collaboration in research. In this context, collaboration refers to meaningful, goal-oriented cooperation between researchers and actors outside academia – such as health authorities, municipalities, patient organisations, companies, public authorities, or civil society – to jointly develop, apply, or implement research that contributes to improved health and societal benefit. This may involve co-creation of research questions, shared implementation, or translating results into real-world practice.
Through interactive sessions, real-life case studies, and group discussions, the participants will reflect on personal experiences, unpack key concepts – such as the collaboration ladder – and explore how collaboration can enhance research impact and increase access to funding.
”Whether you're new to collaboration or looking to deepen existing relations, you'll leave with practical tools and insights to strengthen collaborative efforts in your work. Collaboration has the potential to contribute to new opportunities and solutions. Join the workshop to develop your collaborative skills and explore how collaboration can contribute to your research,” says Maria Johansson, project manager at LU Cooperation Office.
Target group: All researchers in medicine and health – including preclinical and clinical research, public health, health economics and other related fields – who are curious about how to develop collaboration are welcome to attend.
Format: Workshop
Organiser: Career Support at the Faculty of Medicine
Workshop leaders: Maria Johansson and Anna Bille – PhDs, Collaboration Managers at LU Collaboration Office.
Experience-based case examples by participating researchers:
- Pernilla Stenström - Senior lecturer, MD, Specialist in Paediatric surgery
- Anna Falk – Professor, Director of LU-ATMP (Lund University Advanced Therapy Medicinal Products)
"I lead two different consortia with partners from academia, healthcare and industry, funded by Vinnova. Successfully collaborating across different partners and interests has been essential to moving the project forward. Initially, it is often more challenging to lead collaborative projects compared to other types of projects, but in the end, it brings so much more in terms of creativity, increased understanding and improved outcomes."
- Jonas Björk – Professor at EpiHealth
"I lead an interdisciplinary research project focused on improving preparedness for future pandemics, funded by agencies including the Swedish Research Council (VR), Vinnova and SciLifeLab. The project involves collaboration with key stakeholders such as the Public Health Agency of Sweden, Smittskydd Skåne, Region Skåne and Västerbotten, several of the largest municipalities in Skåne and a biotech company affiliated with Umeå University."
