Open science is an umbrella term that deals with making research results, data and methods freely available to everyone, in order to promote transparency, collaboration and faster scientific development. It encompasses a number of practices that are relevant in all parts of the scientific process.
"The conference will address key questions about how science can be conducted in a more open way, something we believe deserves more attention. At the library, we work actively to support and promote various aspects of this, such as open data and open publishing," explains Librarian Aprile Clark at the Faculty of Medicine.
The conference is aimed at researchers and doctoral students at the Faculty of Medicine.
"But other interested are also welcome. This is a chance to learn more about the importance of openness principles in the scientific process, both broadly and in depth, and to update yourself on the rapid development of open science.
Meeting funders' requirements
It will be a full day on open science with program items that span the entire research process: funding, making data available, publishing, copyright and evaluation. The speakers are from Lund University, from other Swedish universities and organisations.
"Questions that can be answered during the conference are, for example, how researchers can meet the funders' demands for openness and how to live up to the government's and the university's goals for open science.
