The Sandblom Prize: Soothing the soul with bedside poetry
Medicine treats the body. Poetry can help the person endure. In Lund, poet and arts-in-health pioneer Fiona Sampson will give an open prize lecture on why healthcare needs both.
“People are not merely biological bodies,” she says. “We are thinking, feeling and fearful beings, trying to understand what is happening to us. Medicine can treat the physical condition; the arts can help us live through the experience around it.”
